Meet Ruth and Ruthie

So, how freaky is it that I work with another Ruth? Not so freaky, you say. Well, what if I told you that she also drives a 4Runner? And that she carries a PDA like I do? And the same model, Zire 72 Palm Pilot? Or that she is an ER nurse and she also is a Certified Emergency Nurse? Too freaky for me.

To add to that, we went on a call and the nurse receiving our patient was also named Ruth. I didn’t ask what she drove or if she carried a PDA. Why weird myself out? The patient was weird enough. He kept calling me Woothie. I wanted to say, Give it up, Elmer Fudd, you freak; but some things we don’t say as professionals.

I get very confused, though, when someone calls out, ‘Ruth’. Maybe I’ll just keep my earplugs in and if they want me to hear, they can tap me on the shoulder and I can pretend to listen. Of course, some days, they prefer me to have a muzzle. Good luck with that, people.
